MERCER, Maine (WABI) – Authorities say they found an illegal marijuana growing operation in Mercer Friday.

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office says they searched a home on the Rome Road and found around 550 plants, flowering marijuana plants, and several pounds of harvested marijuana.

They also say they found a chemical being used in the operation that’s prohibited in Maine.

All of the drugs were seized, but they say nobody was there at the time of the search.

The sheriff’s office says the individuals involved will be charged with cultivation of marijuana and drug trafficking once they’re located.

Mercer Code Enforcement was notified due to the state of the home and the use of the prohibited chemical.
