JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. (WAVE) – A manager at a KFC restaurant in Seymour, Indiana was arrested Tuesday after police say she was stealing from the restaurant over several months, all while running a marijuana growing operation from her home.
Seymour police say Aimee J. Brooks, 40, of Seymour is charged with felony theft, neglect of a dependent, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to police, Brooks was reported last week by other managers at KFC, who claimed that she had been taking money from the store. Brooks reportedly said she was putting money in the safe, but numbers weren’t matching up. Officials with KFC said they were missing more than $7,000 over a period of six months.
With the information collected, police went to Brooks’ home to question her Tuesday. Officers said they noticed a smell of marijuana coming from the home and got permission for a search.
Inside, they reportedly found marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and equipment for a marijuana grow operation.
While interviewing Brooks, police say she admitted to taking money from the KFC restaurant in which she served as a manager. Brooks was arrested on several felony charges and booked at the Jackson County Jail.
Brooks was notably charged with neglect of a dependent/child, but the child in question was not mentioned in the police department’s release.
Seymour police say other suspects may be charged in the near future.
