LEE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lee County School District will meet Tuesday to discuss a new policy regarding medical marihuana use on school grounds.
Marijuana products that are smokeable or inhaled are not allowed. However, oils, lotions are edibles would be allowed if the student qualifies.
If the policy is approved, a caregiver may administer the dosage to the student.
What makes a student qualified?
The student/patient who is a resident must be added to the medical marijuana/low THC cannabis use registry by a qualified physician.
There would be a lot of limitations within this policy.
The use of medical marijuana won’t be allowed on a school bus or at school events.
School district employees would also not be allowed to give the drugs.
Who can be a caregiver?
The caregiver must be 21 years of age or older and a Florida resident who has agreed to assist with a qualified patient’s medical use of marijuana has acaregiver identification card, and meets a list of requirements provided in the policy.
