A bungling cannabis grower was caught by cops after climbing out of a bathroom window. Police were waiting for Balla Belul in the garden of the house in Clarendon Avenue, Leamington.

He had been spotted inside when officers peered through the letterbox of the house. They clocked that all of the curtains were shut and looking through the letterbox they could see the door had been reinforced.

They also spotted the 26-year-old inside. He tried to escape, climbing out of the bathroom window and fled into the back garden but the officers were waiting for him.

As well as the arrest, officers from Leamington Serious and Organised Crime Team uncovered a large cannabis grow inside the house after they were tipped off about it. They found 129 plants growing across four rooms.

Warwickshire Police say the cannabis had a street value of more than £70,000. Belul, who lived at the house, was later charged with producing cannabis. Appearing at court on Friday (May 10), he was jailed for 18 months after pleading guilty to the offence.

Detective Constable Dubad praised the member of public who tipped them off about the huge cannabis grow. “This was a professional set up which likely had links to wider organised criminals,” DC Dubad said. “These groups make money from the exploitation of vulnerable people and bring violence to our streets.

“The intelligence for this discovery came from an alert member of the public who raised concerns with. I encourage people to be on the lookout for the signs of cannabis grows and report them to us.”
