SOUTHWICK — While the Select Board took the first steps to change the town’s zoning bylaws to allow recreational dispensaries to open in town, it hasn’t yet decided on whether or when to call a Special Town Meeting to get a new law approved.

“It’s my intention to call for a special,” Select Board member Jason Perron said during the board’s meeting Monday night.

In May, town voters approved amending the town’s bylaws to allow recreational marijuana dispensaries to open. But before the first dispensary can even consider approaching the town to begin the permit process, the town’s zoning bylaws and its voter-approved marijuana overlay map must be amended.
