STATESVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Three people have been arrested after being found with more than 845 grams of marijuana, according to the Statesville Police Department.

On Feb. 10, 2024, officers conducted a traffic stop after a vehicle attempted to escape.

The vehicle, a 2023 white GMC Acadia, was identified as a rental from Winston-Salem, officials said. When they got to the car, they detected an overwhelming smell of marijuana coming from inside and initiated a search.

Inside, officers found 846.5 grams (1.86 pounds) of marijuana, six oxycodone pills, two handguns and $2,763 in cash.

The driver, 20-year-old Jalin Elliott, and the two passengers, 22-year-old Cortney Phifer Jr. and 24-year-old Kesean Saddler, were all searched and detained.

Jalin Elliott was issued a $3,000 secured bond for the charges of:

Possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana
Felony possession of marijuana
Felony maintaining a vehicle
Conspiracy to sell or deliver marijuana

Kesean Saddler was issued a $1,500 and charged with conspiracy to sell or deliver marijuana.

Cortney Phifer Jr. was charged with conspiracy to sell or deliver marijuana. Police say he’s being held at the Iredell County Detention Center without bond due to existing bond obligations from unrelated charges.
