According to Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges, deputies stopped the wrecker on Loop 224 near University Drive for a traffic violation, where they found Brown driving with Roberts in the passenger seat.
In previous investigations, the sheriff’s office said they had learned a towing company had been regularly taking Roberts vehicle from the Houston area back to Nacogdoches County over the last two years, making at least 15 trips.
After the men gave conflicting stories, deputies, with the help of a K-9, were able to search the vehicles. The search revealed 48 packages of high grade, hydroponic marijuana hidden in garbage bags in Roberts’ vehicle, according to the release.
Both men were taken to the Nacogdoches County Jail. Each posted a $100,000 for each charge the following day.
