ATHENS, Texas (KLTV) – A Mabank man was sentenced to life in prison after being convicted for selling drugs.

Jeffrey Lee Sharp, 62, faced trial on Monday in Judge R. Scott McKee’s courtroom and was convicted by a jury on Tuesday despite pleading not guilty.

On Oct. 26, 2023, an investigator with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office made a traffic stop in the 1800 block of Main Street in Gun Barrel City and said he noticed the odor of marijuana from Sharp’s vehicle. Sharp was the only person in the vehicle, and during a search the investigator said he found multiple clear baggies with methamphetamines and one with marijuana. A DPS lab analysis confirmed the contents.

Sharp was indicted on Jan. 10, 2024, and arraigned with bond set at $100,000 on April 4, 2024. On April 1, 2025, an offer of 45 years was declined, and a jury trial was announced.

During trial, testimony was given that Sharp was a habitual offender, and his sentence was enhanced due to prior consecutive prison sentences. At the time of his arrest in this case, Sharp was on parole, authorities said. He already had two separate sentences of 35 years for drug and burglary charges and a 20-year sentence for injury to a child, plus smaller penalties.

“This defendant has repeatedly shown a disregard for the law and the safety of others,” said District Attorney Jenny Palmer. “This verdict and Judge McKee’s sentence reflect the seriousness of his crimes.”

Sharp was given a sentence of life in prison for the charge of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, greater than or equal to 4 grams but less than 200 grams.
