BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested Thursday, May 8, after allegedly trespassing at a local Family Dollar store from which he had previously been barred and subsequently found to have marijuana.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Bedford Police Officer Bailey Duprey, John Bogue, 46, was detained on charges of criminal trespass and possession of marijuana.
Officers were dispatched to Family Dollar at 706 16th Street after employees reported that Bogue, who had previously trespassed from the location on Friday, May 2, had returned to the premises.
Upon arrival, Officer Duprey spoke with employees and began viewing security footage of Bogue entering the store. While reviewing the video, another employee informed Officer Duprey that Bogue had returned to the property. Officer Duprey then confronted Bogue and, after asking if he had any weapons, placed him in handcuffs and secured him in a police vehicle.
Stone City Wrecker Service towed Bogue’s vehicle from the scene for being improperly parked in a handicapped parking space. During an inventory of the car, Sergeant Gerkin allegedly located a sunglasses case in the glove compartment containing marijuana and glass smoking devices. The items were collected as evidence, and photographs were taken.
Bogue was transported to the Lawrence County Security Center and jailed. He was also served with a protective order.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based on a probable cause affidavit, representing the investigating officer’s belief that a crime has been committed.
