Event to take place from May 22–24, 2025, at Expo Center Norte, showcasing Brazil’s latest scientific, economic, and technological advancements in the cannabis sector.
From May 22 to 24, 2025, São Paulo will host the 4th edition of the Medical Cannabis Fair and the Brazilian Congress on Medicinal Cannabis. These simultaneous events serve as key platforms for discussing scientific, regulatory, and economic developments in Brazil’s cannabis industry.
With over 5,000 attendees and 1,000 in-person congress participants expected, the event will take place at Expo Center Norte, gathering healthcare professionals, industry players, agribusiness experts, investors, researchers, entrepreneurs, and public policy representatives. It aims to promote public policy development, sustainable business, scientific exchange, and broader access to cannabis-related knowledge.
The fair will feature 60 booths and 100 exhibiting brands, presenting both national and international innovations in the medicinal and industrial uses of cannabis. Products and solutions include pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, functional foods, textiles, supplements, bioplastics, and agricultural innovations based on industrial hemp.
The Congress will bring together over 100 speakers and 1,000 congress participants, including both Brazilian and international experts. The program will be divided into thematic modules covering the plant’s wide range of applications, such as:
– MedCan – Specialties (advanced cannabis use across medical specialties)
– MedCan – Endocannabinoid System (foundational and clinical training)
– Vet Cannabis (veterinary applications)
– Odonto Cannabis (dental uses)
– Business Cannabis (business and investment opportunities)
– Agro Tech Cannabis (agricultural and industrial hemp potential)
2025 Highlights: Agribusiness in Focus and Expanded Digital Access
First-time partnership with EMBRAPA: The Agro Tech Cannabis Module will be held in collaboration with EMBRAPA (Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation), one of the country’s most respected agribusiness research institutions. EMBRAPA leads studies on cannabis and hemp cultivation in Brazilian soil, evaluating the crops’ economic, social, and environmental potential. Experts will discuss regulatory issues and sustainable agricultural practices.
Congress livestream available: To meet the growing demand from health professionals, rural producers, and entrepreneurs from across the country, Sechat will offer a live online broadcast of the Congress, enabling broader access to scientific and technical content.
Cannabis: The New Soybean for Brazilian Agribusiness?
On May 19, ANVISA (Brazil’s health regulatory agency) and the Ministry of Agriculture are expected to officially announce new rules for cannabis cultivation in Brazil, following a decision by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ). The announcement could unlock a high-potential market and position Brazil among more than 60 countries that already regulate cannabis cultivation for medicinal and industrial use.
Experts predict cannabis—particularly industrial hemp—could become one of the most profitable crops in Brazilian agribusiness. Its applications span the textile, cosmetics, food, construction, biofuels, and biodegradable plastics industries.
According to market intelligence firm Kaya Mind, Brazil’s cannabis production chain could generate more than R$26 billion annually, boosting key sectors such as healthcare, cosmetics, food, construction, and regenerative agriculture.
CBD and Hemp: Health and Sustainability Solutions
The use of cannabidiol (CBD) is growing rapidly in Brazil. According to the 3rd Brazilian Yearbook on Medicinal Cannabis (Kaya Mind, 2024), more than 672,000 patients are currently being treated with cannabis-based products—a 56% increase over the previous year. CBD has shown effectiveness in treating epilepsy, autism, chronic pain, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, and anxiety disorders.
Meanwhile, industrial hemp—a variety with low THC concentration—is gaining ground as a sustainable alternative across multiple sectors, including construction, textiles, automotive, food, and biofuels. The plant requires less water and fewer pesticides, and its fibers can replace highly polluting raw materials, contributing to economic decarbonization and regenerative agriculture practices.
