TOLEDO, Ohio — A Longfellow Elementary student was arrested Thursday morning after a school resource officer found suspected marijuana, parts of a handgun and ammunition during a search, according to Toledo Public Schools and police.
The officer responded to the school around 10 a.m. on a weapons-related call, Toledo police said in an incident report. During the search by police and the district’s department of safety, the student was found with suspected marijuana, part of a handgun and a magazine containing ammunition.
The student, identified by police as a 12-year-old, was arrested and taken to the Juvenile Justice Center without incident.
“The student now faces severe disciplinary action and possible criminal charges,” Toledo Public Schools spokesperson Patty Mazur said in a statement provided to WTOL 11. “No direct threats were made toward the school or any specific student.”
It is WTOL 11 policy to not name juvenile suspects unless they are tried as an adult.

“A student at Longfellow Elementary was arrested this morning after officers from Toledo Police and the district’s Department of Safety searched him and found him in possession of marijuana and parts of a firearm, including a partially equipped magazine. The student now faces severe disciplinary action and possible criminal charges. No direct threats were made toward the school or any specific student.”
