LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – An Omaha man was arrested after deputies found marijuana and a loaded pistol in his SUV during a traffic stop on Saturday.
Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies stopped a black GNC Terrain at northwest 48th and west O streets around 2:20 a.m. for not having a front license plate. While making contact with the driver, Brandon Byrd, 35, of Omaha, deputies reportedly smelled marijuana from the vehicle and asked him to step out.
The deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and found a loaded Hi-Point .45 caliber pistol in the wheel well.
Byrd has served jail time for being a felon in possession of a deadly weapon in the past.
Byrd was cited and lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person – second offense. He also received citations for possessing marijuana, drug paraphernalia, possessing a weapon during a commission of a felony and no front license plate.
“He has had a very long record in Douglas County and has done time twice at the state corrections service,” Houchin said.
