A massive cannabis cultivation has been uncovered by police inside an empty unit on an industrial estate in South Wales. When police arrived, 11 men were caught inside and then arrested for an array of serious crimes including attempted kidnap and aggravated burglary.

Officers from South Wales Police were called at around 11pm on Tuesday night to reports of an ongoing burglary on Hirwaun Industrial Estate. When police entered the industrial estate, they saw multiple people inside a unit that had been turned into what they believed to be a cannabis farm.

At the scene, one man from Aberdare was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis, two men from Lancashire were arrested on suspicion of aggravated robbery, one man from Kirby, Knowsley, was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap and six men from Aberdare and one man from Hirwaun were all arrested on suspicion of affray.

Eight of these men have been bailed until September 5 as police conduct further enquiries and three remain in police custody.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “South Wales Police was called just after 11.20pm on Tuesday June 3 with a report of a burglary ongoing in a unit on Hirwaun Industrial Estate.

“When officers arrived at the scene there were multiple people at the location and when they went inside, they found what appeared to be a cannabis cultivation operation.

“11 men have been arrested in connection to the incident. Eight have been bailed for further enquiries until September 5 and three currently remain in police custody.
