WELLS, Maine (WGME) — Wells voters have decided to prohibit recreational marijuana sales in the town.
This is the second time Wells residents have voted to allow only medical marijuana to be sold. They arrived at the same decision back in 2017.
Proponents of recreational marijuana sales in the town argued that regulations governing medical marijuana are less stringent in Maine, framing the issue as one of consumer safety.
Opponents generally cited what they saw as a saturation of recreational dispensaries in the state.
The proposal was voted down with 1,132 “No” votes and 670 “Yes” votes.
