DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management officially issued the state’s first cannabis sales license on June 18.

The microbusiness that received the very first licensure, Herb Quest, LLC, will operate out of Brook Park in Pine County, southwest of Hinckley.

Company leaders say their first business activity will be the outdoor cultivation of cannabis plants.

According to the Office of Cannabis Management, more than 600 businesses are within the final steps of completing their applications. After that, companies can then secure approvals from local governments.

State officials said a new application window for cannabis testing facilities and cannabis event organizer licenses will open on August 1.

While recreational cannabis was legalized in Minnesota in 2023, it’s taken years for Minnesota to develop regulations, especially when it comes to sales.
