A police operation carried out in the locality of Salvador Rosales, in the municipality of Songo-La Maya, province of Santiago de Cuba, resulted in the arrest of a young man caught while counting seeds from an illegal crop of over 2,000 marijuana plants.

According to information shared on Facebook by the page Héroes del Moncada, affiliated with the Ministry of Interior (MININT), the operation was made possible thanks to the support of local residents who alerted the authorities.

In addition to the main suspect, several individuals allegedly linked to the harvest, distribution, and trafficking of marijuana were also arrested and are undergoing criminal prosecution.

The authorities did not provide details about the identities of those detained or the fate of the confiscated crop, but they did reiterate that these actions are part of the official “Zero Tolerance” policy towards drugs, implemented by the Cuban government.

Last Tuesday, the regime authorities dismantled a large marijuana plantation in La Tabla, in the mountainous area of the Tercer Frente municipality, also in the province of Santiago de Cuba.

According to the official page Héroes del Moncada, over 3,000 marijuana plants and a large quantity of seeds ready for planting were found in the area by members of the Revolutionary National Police (PNR) and the Cuban Forestry Corps.

In April, the Provincial People’s Court of Santiago de Cuba for transporting 485 grams of marijuana to Camagüey, as part of a series of oral and public trials deemed “exemplary” by the regime.

The accused was also subjected to additional measures, including the confiscation of 28,455 Cuban pesos, along with the seized drugs, the deprivation of rights, and a ban on leaving the national territory.

In that same month, the mentioned court sentenced two young individuals to eight and nine years of imprisonment for offenses related to illegal drugs, as part of oral and public trials characterized by the regime as “exemplary”.

The intensification of operations against drug trafficking has led to arrests and seizures in Havana, Holguín, and other provinces. In recent days, multiple reports on social media have indicated the capture of suspected drug traffickers and the confiscation of illegal substances in various localities.

The presence of these substances in various regions, their distribution through social networks, and their rising consumption, particularly among young people, reflect the deepening of a crisis that has roots in both economic factors and the lack of opportunities within Cuban society.
