A 21-year-old woman is currently detained by German authorities after allegedly traveling with cannabis from Thailand.

Cameron Bradford, from Hertfordshire County in eastern England, was arrested at Munich Airport in late April, according to German authorities. She remains in custody, though the next steps in the process are unclear.

The Sun reported this week that Cameron, a mother of one, had initially planned to fly into London’s Heathrow Airport via Singapore, but later changed her flight route.

A family friend shared that Cameron had traveled to Thailand alone and posted a photo of her journey on Facebook in April.

Bradford raised suspicion after changing her original flight route to one transiting through Germany. Border police at Munich Airport subsequently discovered cannabis in her luggage, leading to her detention while police launched an investigation.

Her family had reported her missing when she failed to return to the U.K., only to later be informed that she had been detained in Germany, according to Thaiger.

Although Germany legalized cannabis for residents in 2024, it remains illegal for tourists to import or carry cannabis. Bradford now faces at least four months in prison, with formal charges still pending.

In February, the U.K.’s Border Force and the National Crime Agency participated in Operation Chaophraya, a cannabis anti-trafficking operation led by the U.K. Home Office at Bangkok Airport. This operation resulted in over two tons of cannabis being seized from transiting passengers, with an estimated value of £6 million (US$8.14 million), the Home Office said in a statement on April 25.

Between July of last year and April of this year, over 50 British nationals have been arrested in Thailand for attempted cannabis smuggling, highlighting the importance of deterrence efforts upstream, the Home Office said.
