A traffic stop late Friday night for expired registration led to a Bryan man being arrested for possession of three pounds of marijuana.

JW Tokes Sr., 45, was pulled over by police in the 2300 block of Boonville Road after an officer noticed the registration on Tokes’ vehicle was expired. As the officer approached the vehicle, he noticed the odor of fresh marijuana.
A search of the vehicle was conducted and found the marijuana in a vacuum sealed bag under the rear driver side seat as well in two vacuum sealed bags underneath the rear passenger side seat. Officers also found a glass jar with a residual amount of marijuana as well as the odor of marijuana.
According to the report, Tokes informed officers that he purchases around half a pound of marijuana every two weeks for personal consumption, but this time decided to make a larger purchase. A search of Tokes’ phone by officers showed texts between Tokes and the Houston-area dealer that had details of the purchases and frequencies.

Tokes was charged with possession of marijuana greater than four ounces but less than or equal to five pounds, a state jail felony punishable by 180 days to two years in jail and a fine of up to $10,000.
Tokes was booked into the Brazos County Detention Center and released Saturday after posting a $5,000 bond.
