EUREKA, Calif., — Gold Rush Coffee and Cannabis in Eureka is blending two Humboldt County staples under one roof, offering a unique combination of coffee and cannabis while supporting local cannabis sellers in a challenging industry.

“We really want to continue to highlight Humboldt because this is where cannabis really started,” said Tashina Benson, owner of Gold Rush Coffee and Cannabis. The establishment serves as both a coffee shop and a dispensary, aiming to keep Humboldt’s cannabis economy in local hands amid industry challenges.

“The industry at this point is in the gutter. At least on the west coast it is over saturated, the rules and regulations have pretty much all but crushed small farms,” said Michael Benson, co-owner of Gold Rush Coffee and Cannabis.

Since legalization, Humboldt’s legacy growers have faced steep regulations, shrinking profit margins, and market separation. Gold Rush offers these growers a platform to remain visible and viable.

“While we have our own brand, it’s also been about what other local brands exist here that are also trying to survive in this market, so we reached out to a lot of different farmers and companies that are here locally and bringing them in so that’s what I think is really special about this dispensary,” said Tashina Benson.

The Bensons hope to preserve Humboldt’s long cannabis history through their community-focused business. “Just come support local cannabis. Whether it’s us or another local cannabis dispensary it’s really about seeing those who have been in this industry for a very long time and still trying to do it and supporting those local companies,” said Tashina Benson.

While the cannabis side of the business requires patrons to be 21 or older, the drive-through coffee service is open to all ages. Gold Rush Coffee and Cannabis is brewing more than just drinks; they are fostering community, a blend that resonates deeply with Humboldt’s heritage.
