ANN ARBOR, MI — A new Michigan Supreme Court ruling that says marijuana odor alone isn’t sufficient reason for police to search a car without a warrant is good news for both residents and law enforcement, an Ann Arbor official said.
“That means the smell of it on a person, in a car or even in the air is no longer evidence of a crime,” Council Member Cynthia Harrison, D-1st Ward, said at the City Council meeting Monday night, April 7, two days after the annual Hash Bash marijuana smoke fest on the University of Michigan Diag.
