COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Columbus police seized five guns and more than 170 grams of marijuana during a targeted crime suppression operation across the city on June 2.

The Special Operations Unit with the Columbus Police Department conducted multiple traffic stops in key areas during the effort. Officers recovered five firearms, two of which were confirmed stolen, along with distribution materials and 172 grams of marijuana.

Six people were arrested and are now facing charges including:

possession of a firearm during the commission of a crimetheft by receiving a firearmpossession of a firearm by a convicted felonpossession of a firearm by a person under 18possession of marijuana with intent to distribute

Police say two of the individuals arrested are validated gang members.

CPD says the sweep is part of its ongoing mission to get illegal guns and drugs off the streets and thanked the community for its continued support.
