On Tuesday evening, the agency said, agents with the Criminal Interdiction Team pulled over a sprinter van on I-40 in Haywood County for a traffic violation; during the stop, the agents became suspicious about the load being taken from Oklahoma to North Carolina and received consent to search the van from the driver.
During the search, agents said they found two padlocked job-boxes, for which the driver didn’t have any keys. DTF said further investigation found that the boxes were filled with roughly 110 pounds of vacuum-sealed marijuana.
The task force said the driver was released after they determined that he’d been paid to pick up and deliver the boxes and had no knowledge of the contents; the investigation is ongoing.
