Jane Dispensary moved into Healdsburg in May, adding to the northern Sonoma County town’s cannabis offerings.

It’s the third location for Jane following its opening in Santa Rosa in 2021 and Cotati in 2023. It’s also the second cannabis retailer for Healdsburg, since Solful celebrated its grand opening on Healdsburg Avenue last October.

“We’re making the pie bigger,” CEO Leigh Anne Baker said.

Baker reconstructed a 2,000-square-foot building at 44D Mill St., next to Coyote Sonoma. She’s planning to use the patio in the summer to provide entertainment.

The city approved the ordinance for two retailers in April 2023, awarding Jane and Solful the spots seven months later, although the application process was contested in a lawsuit filed by Mercy Wellness. The case was thrown out last year.

“People waited so long for this,” Baker said.

She said the two cannabis businesses complement one another — Solful with its focus on outdoor and farm roots and Jane’s experience as a boutique retailer, with its large selection of inventory from beverages to edibles.

“There’s room for both,” Baker said.

Healdsburg Chamber of Commerce and city officials agreed.

“I think the market can bear both,” chamber CEO Tallia Hart said.

Hart pointed out that both cannabis retailers relish the distinction of having strong brand loyalty among their customers.

She also noted the two stores are in separate sections of town, with Solful in midtown and Jane situated just south of the city.

City Manager Jeff Kay is convinced the market will support two dispensaries.

“We usually let the industry tell us what the market will bear. And with how many applications we had, we think it will,” he said, referring to the eight applicants vying for two spots.

Jane’s new dispensary will be staffed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day through its 40-person workforce.
