GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) – April 20 is also known as 420 day, which is a big holiday in the cannabis industry.

Grand Junction business KAI Dispensary said it’s a big day for them. “I would say 420 is our Super Bowl. I mean, we’ve got a handful of events through the year, but 420 is the one that people just know there’s going to be deals and it’s a fun day to partake in cannabis,” said Joey Coleman, the owner of KAI Dispensary.

To celebrate, Coleman said they had store-wide deals going on, and they even had a DJ at the store. “It’s a really fun day for us. We wanted to make it more than just like deals. So, we’ve got a DJ here. We’ve had people in all day. It’s just a good way to get more of the community out and kind of see our space, which is great,” said Coleman.

Compared to other days, they were quite busy on April 20. “It’s like 10 times more people. Like it’s much, much busier today than most Sundays. Sundays are usually kind of a slow day. And today when I opened the gates, there were people waiting at the gates,” said Coleman.

Grand Junction voters approved retail marijuana within city limits in 2021. KAI Dispensary is one of ten shops that was allowed to open in Grand Junction after they were selected in a lottery by the city.
