It Has Not Been Lost on Snoop Dogg That 4/20 Weed Holiday Falls on Easter Sunday

In an alignment that some may find humorous, 2025 has seen fit to have the informal marijuana holiday known as 420 coincide with two of the most religious days of the year, Easter Sunday and the last day of Passover. As Americans hunt for dyed eggs, spike their blood sugar levels with Peeps, attend services, enjoy matzo dishes and memorialize the dearly departed, others may be consuming cannabis products with a sense of ceremony.

Recreational marijuana is currently legal in 24 states in the U.S., with the overall cannabis industry expected to pull in nearly $45 billion in sales in 2025; there are scores of 420 events in Los Angeles alone. The unconfirmed lore behind the holiday is that a group of California teens in the ’70s would regularly meet up to smoke at 4:20 p.m. and their use of the time stamp as a code name took off.

Marijuana’s high priest and influential cultural figure Snoop Dogg has rapped about his love of cannabis since around the time he was featured on Dr. Dre’s 1992 solo album The Chronic (itself a reference to marijuana) and has launched several business ventures in the cannabis industry, including his own weed brand, Leafs by Snoop. With a breezy wit displayed over his 30-plus-year career (including his breakout commentary during the 2024 Olympics which cemented his global influence), the artist observed the rare confluence of holidays with a simple image of himself as the Easter Bunny on X (formerly Twitter).
