Jasper County — A traffic stop in Jasper County turned into a meth and marijuana bust with the passenger drawing the attention of a deputy.

The deputy stopped a driver for a registration violation at 11:15 p.m. May 28 on Highway 96 north of Buna.

The driver gave consent to search and the deputy discovered a digital scale with what he believed to be methamphetamine residue beneath a seat.

The deputy searched a passenger, Christopher Alan Cormicle, 47, of Colmesneil, and found about 23.5 grams of methamphetamines, or a little less than one ounce, and a small amount of marijuana on him.

Cormicle was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substances PG1<>>4g<<>200g , a 2nd degree felony. If convicted, he could face 2-20 years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine. The deputy drove Cormicle to the Jasper County Jail.

“The methamphetamine epidemic affects our entire region and we are going to do everything we can to eradicate it in Jasper County and keep it away from our families,” says Sheriff Chuck Havard. “I want to thank our men and women in uniform for their hard work and dedication.”
