LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Jefferson County Public Schools teacher was reassigned after being arrested on drug charges.
Ralph Loechle, a 51-year-old social studies teacher at Eastern High School, was arrested in Shelby County over the weekend.
According to the arrest report, an officer pulled him over because the plate on his car didn’t match the registration. When the officer asked Loechle to step out of the vehicle, he said the car smelled like marijuana. The officer then found a burnt joint inside a cigarette box in Loechle’s pocket, as well as marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside the car.
The officer also reportedly found a medicine bottle that contained a small, clear baggie believed to be meth.
Loechle told the officer the drugs were not his or anyone else’s inside the vehicle. He’s now charged with improper display of registration plates, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to maintain required insurance.
A JCPS spokesperson said Loechle was reassigned to a non-instructional position.
Loechle posted a $5,000 bond Monday and was released. He’s expected back in court for a preliminary hearing May 13.
