BATAVIA, Ohio (WKRC) – Aimee Murray is seeking community support to use medical marijuana instead of prescription drugs while on probation.
Murray has launched an online petition she hopes will show public support for her request to the Clermont County Municipal Court judges.
Murray, who has been prescribed benzodiazepines to manage her post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), said she feels more comfortable using medical marijuana. However, the court judges have not approved her request to switch medications while on probation.
“Eventually, hopefully, my brain will rewire itself so that I won’t need any medications at all, but addiction is a huge concern with something like benzodiazepines,” said Murray.
Murray previously used medical marijuana while on felony probation in Clermont County Common Pleas Court, where she obtained a medical marijuana card in 2022. She complied with court requests to provide receipts from dispensaries to prove legal acquisition.
Murray pled guilty to two separate misdemeanors in municipal court earlier in 2025, resulting in 24 months of probation. Under current terms, using marijuana would violate her probation. Despite medical marijuana being legal in Ohio since 2016, both judges denied her request to use it without providing a reason.
“I didn’t take it personally, but I do believe that medical marijuana is a medication. So, knowing that the judges are making decisions that I feel that only doctors should be able to is what’s upsetting to me,” said Murray.
Murray has connected with others in similar situations and hopes her story will raise awareness and increase accessibility to medical marijuana, even if she must complete her probation without it.
