Louisiana Tech University Police arrested a Simsboro man who was reportedly offering to sell marijuana out of his car at Hideaway Park on the school campus.
Nicholas Treveion Maryland, 21, of Simsboro, was arrested May 31 after police investigated a report of a man driving a silver Honda attempting to sell marijuana.
According to an officer’s report, someone walked into the campus police station and reported the man. Police found Maryland standing in front of his car in the roadway on Bulldog Drive behind the Thomas Assembly Center. A digital scale was in plain view on the center console of the vehicle and a box of sandwich bags was on the floorboard.
During a search of Maryland’s vehicle, officers located a Glock 19 9mm pistol on the driver’s side floorboard. A vacuum-sealed plastic bag containing about 80 grams of suspected marijuana bagged in several clear-sealed bags and loose marijuana was discovered behind the front passenger seat.
Maryland fled on foot after he was handcuffed but was apprehended about 300 yards away.
Maryland was booked into the Lincoln Parish Detention Center for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, resisting an officer, and illegal carrying of a firearm while in possession of a controlled substance.
Bail was set at $32,000.
