Man sentenced to years in prison for assaulting elderly veteran over medical marijuana

A Stuart man has been sentenced following an alleged assault of a military veteran.Roodphild Briteus, 25, pleaded no contest on April 25 to burglary of a dwelling with an assault or battery, battery on an elderly person and grand theft of a controlled substance.The court found him guilty on the three charges.Briteus was sentenced to six years in state prison for the burglary offense and five years each for the battery and grand theft charges.The sentences will be served concurrently.Briteus was credited with 150 days of time served in jail and has a release date from prison on Nov. 25, 2030.As of May 22, he is currently housed in a state reception center in Orlando.Last November, Briteus was accused of breaking into the home of an elderly man on SE Jackson Street to steal the victim’s medically prescribed marijuana.The victim, an 81-year-old man, confronted Briteus and a physical altercation occurred.Briteus allegedly stole $350 worth of medical marijuana.Top stories:Man set to be executed in Florida in 1994 killing of Carmen GayheartStay up-to-date: The latest headlines and weather from WPBF 25 Get the latest news updates with the WPBF 25 News app. You can download it here.
