A measure intended to provide additional regulatory framework for medical marijuana stalled in the Nebraska Legislature.
LB 677 aimed to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for the cultivation, processing, distribution, and sale of medical cannabis in Nebraska, replacing much of what voters had approved at the ballot box last November.
During debate on several filibuster motions to stall or postpone the bill, Senators Brian Hardin of Gering and Mike Jacobsen of North Platte was among several voicing opposition.
The bill’s sponsor attempted to invoke cloture to force an end to debate and bring about a vote on an amendment and the bill itself, but that effort failed on a vote of 23 in favor and 22 against.
It wasn’t immediately clear if supporters would try to attach the measure to another bill that has better odds of passing this year, or if it would be laid over for additional consideration in 2026 session.
