Heads up for those of you in the hemp food business—Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson is reminding manufacturers and retailers that big changes are on the horizon. Starting June 16, 2025, new rules around packaging, labeling, and marketing of hemp products will officially be enforced.

If you’re selling hemp or hemp extract meant for human consumption, now’s the time to double-check that your products are compliant. That includes using child-resistant packaging, updating your labels with common household measurements, and ensuring QR codes actually link to lab results in three steps or fewer.

Commissioner Simpson says there’ll be zero tolerance for noncompliance—especially when it comes to protecting children. That means no more candy look-alikes, cartoon characters, or flashy packaging that could appeal to minors. The department has already pulled over 700,000 questionable products off shelves since 2023, and they’re serious about keeping that momentum going.

So if you’re in the industry, get ahead of the game. June 16 isn’t far off, and the Florida Department of Agriculture is ready to take action.
