The team at the New Leaf dispensary at The Highlands in Triadelphia celebrates its grand opening with a ribbon cutting on Friday.
TRIADELPHIA — Those with medical marijuana prescriptions can now get all of their regular shopping done along one strip of road at The Highlands with the opening of New Leaf Wheeling, the next addition in a successful chain of dispensaries across the state.
Though the store had a soft opening and has been in operation since mid-April – to meet a goal of owner Gregory Kennedy to have the business up and running before April 20 – the official grand opening and ribbon cutting was Friday morning.
Mobility and accessibility were main themes for some of the features of the new store, which features two drive-thru windows to make pick-ups even easier for those with mobility issues or anyone who wants or needs a more convenient shopping experience.
“We believe that will be very beneficial and useful for patients,” Kennedy said. “We’ve been trying to create opportunities for our mobility-challenged patients to have a better experience and having the drive-thrus is an important piece of that.”
New Leaf has six dispensaries across the state of West Virginia from Martinsburg to Morgantown and Charleston, among other places. Expanding to Wheeling was a logical next step.
“We want to serve areas where we can find the most success and reach as many patients as we can,” Kennedy said. “This is a prime retail area and that’s really attractive.”
Kennedy and store manager Michelle Goins are excited to finally see the Triadelphia location come into fruition.
“We like our locations and we’ve been planning this location for about a year and a half so it’s been a long time coming but sometimes these things take time to roll out,” he said.
Goins, a local to Wheeling, emphasized the desire in the area for a closer dispensary option.
“We’re glad that we can let people know that we’re here and that we can service them. All of our employees that are at the store are local. A lot of our patients are also local and have been wanting something in this area because there’s nothing on this side where there’s a lot of accessibility to shopping,” Goins said.
There is also an option for patients to put in online orders as another way to make pick-ups even easier.
“This is a great alternative for them to have a place to go where they’re already shopping. They’re already going to Walmart and to Target and Menards. This is just another way to be able to get the medication that they need in a more efficient manner,” she said.
