A new law in Oklahoma is changing the way medical marijuana can be sold.
Q: How were flower marijuana products sold before? What will change?
Before June 1, 2025, flower marijuana products were sold in deli-style jars so patients could pick how much they’d like to purchase. It could then be weighed and packaged in store. But that is all changing under House Bill 3361.
Q: What will House Bill 3361 do?
House Bill 3361 requires all flower-based marijuana products to be sold pre-packaged. The responsibility now falls on growers to package their product before they sell it.
Q: Why is this happening?
Lawmakers say it’s aimed at increasing the safety and handling of the product, so patients know where their product is coming from.
Q: How are some Tulsa growers and dispensaries planning to comply?
Billy Parker is the owner of Jubel LLC in Tulsa. He says they’ve already sent a prepackaged shipment out. He says now when his product comes to a licensed medical marijuana dispensary, it’s already been heat-sealed, everything’s been tested, and the patient is able to see what grow it’s coming from. While he says prices will rise slightly because of the extra labor, Parker believes it will be a good thing in the long run.
Q: Will there be a grace period to sell deli-style inventory?
If a dispensary accepted deli-style flower into its inventory before June 1, 2025, they may continue to sell it until they runs out or until the November 1st deadline.
