The Windsor Police Service arrested one man and seized over $200,000 in cannabis following the search of an illegal cannabis dispensary in the city last Thursday.
Members of the Windsor Police Drugs and Guns Unit (DIGS) assisted the Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team and the Ontario Provincial Police in executing a search warrant at an unlicensed cannabis dispensary located in the 100 block of Tecumseh Road West.

Officers seized over $200,000 worth of cannabis products and over $1,000 in cash. The store was closed pursuant to an interim closure order under section 18 of the Cannabis Control Act.
A 24-year-old was charged with possession of cannabis for the purpose of selling, possession of illicit cannabis and possession of proceeds of crime.

To legally operate a cannabis retail store in Ontario you must qualify for a Retail Operator Licence ($6,000 application fee). Once licensed, the proposed physical store must qualify for a retail store authorization and the applicant (or store manager) must get a Retail Manager Licence.
Since Ottawa legalized weed in Oct. 17, 2018, individuals 18 years or older can legally possess up to 30 grams of dried cannabis or equivalent in public. Adults can also make cannabis-infused food and drinks (without using organic solvents). Each household can grow up to four cannabis plants.
