Philip Wilkinson expressed his agreement with Dorset PCC David Sidwick’s recent comments about the extensive impact of cannabis on community safety in rural communities and its role in fuelling broader criminality.

He said that cannabis serves as a gateway drug and funding source for organised crime groups, and should therefore be recategorised to Class A.

This would align it with other illicit substances like heroin and crack cocaine.

Charlotte Heggie said: “I think alcohol is more harmful than stoners.”

Andy Boland said: “Gateway drug – to the fridge, maybe.”

Lucas Lucas said: “Make it more illegal for the government to grow and export it. Law of the land is not suppose to exclude a certain group of people.”

Tracy Miles said: “Alcohol is mostly the cause of domestic violence. Will never understand that’s it legal and yet marijuana has healing properties and is banned.”

Ryan Rose said: “Keeping it illegal keeps it funding criminal syndicates, their own argument is a failure.

“Declassify and make it readily available like many parts of the world has and you completely remove the criminal funding all together, making tackling the harder crimes more focused and effective instead of suspended sentences for prolific offenders.”

Simon Cousens added: “Alcohol is more harmful.”

Lucas Dangas said: “He’s 77. Why is he still working is the question.”

Anthony Spencer said: “You can only be against legalisation through ignorance or gain.

“Legalisation would control the quality, control who can buy it, decrease crime and the black market.

“Just because some people abuse something doesn’t mean making it illegal is the answer, some people abuse Mars bars and it kills them.”

Jodie Dommett said: “Seen alcohol do 1,000 per cent worse to people – you never see two high people smashing their heads in. Alcohol, which is legal, you have people so addicted to alcohol that go to the shop at 7am for a fix, but that’s fine because it’s taxed.”

Callum Darby said: “He says this but I’m yet to see a bunch of stoners in town causing havoc yet people actively avoid the bus station due to the drunks. I think he needs to come back to reality.”

Jojo Anna-Rack said: “Arrogant and silly man. He needs to retire and put his vastly outdated views about this medicine back in the past where it belongs. Get with the rest of the world and legalise it.”

Adrian Oxenham said: “This proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that those in positions of authority have not got a clue.

“I don’t condone drugs, never taken them. But I have seen people use this for medicinal purposes and I am all for declassifying it.”

Nygel Hulbert said: “What a joke and a waste of time and money.”

Kelly Eatwell said: “Simple legalise it! It would save the NHS millions and the government would make millions. It’s very rare that cannabis makes people violent.”

Toby Robson countered: “And yet when some scuzz comes walking down the street, obviously casing cars and houses, they usually seem to be trailing a strong pong of weed.

“And when some no marks have a bundle down an alleyway and someone gets shanked, it’s never about who is selling cider or hooky paracetamol on their patch, it’s always about the weed and the coke.

“The houses billowing weed smoke from the windows often seem to be the ones with broken panes and rotting rubbish in the front garden and the ones in receipt of late night visits from cars with blue flashing lights.

“I’m no puritan at all. Been around and did my thing until I stopped and felt much better for it.

“The friends that stopped are doing fine too.

“A disproportionately large number of the ones that didn’t have more than their fair share of COPD, heart and mental health issues and seem to live off of a diet of home-delivered takeaways and agoraphobia.

“Seems to me that to say that regular strong weed doesn’t suck motivation and sanity out of so many people is to be in complete denial – which is probably why it’s so popular in Swindon and explains many of its issues to be honest.”
