VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — A stop for illegal tint on Indiana Avenue led to the seizure of nearly 70 pounds of marijuana, two weapons, and two arrests, according to the Vicksburg Police Department.
At approximately 9:45 p.m. Sunday, June 8, Lt. Donnie Heggins, Narcotics Division with the Vicksburg Police Department, stopped a vehicle on Indiana Ave. for illegal tint.
“He (the owner of the vehicle, who was not driving at the time) indicated to me some things that possible drug activity was going on in the vehicle,” said Heggins. “At that point, I pulled him out, called Investigator (Blake) Scallions to run K9 Nadia around the outside of the vehicle. She indicated that there was the presence of odor of illegal narcotics, which gave us probable cause to conduct a search, and this is what we yielded.”
In total, nearly 70 pounds of marijuana, with a street value of $100,000, and two firearms were confiscated in the search. Both the driver and passenger were arrested.

The two men, identified as 22-year-old Tayvion Pope and 24-year-old Robert Lamont Ward, both of Vicksburg, were charged with trafficking of a controlled substance.
Pope was currently out on bond for felony possession of marijuana in the March 11 armed robbery incident that left 19-year-old Quincy Peoples dead and two more hospitalized.
The two stood before Judge Penny Lawson for their initial hearing today. Pope received a $300,000 bond for trafficking of a controlled substance, and Ward received a $200,000 bond for the same charge.
“I commend the officers and K9 unit for their attention to detail and commitment to keeping illegal drugs off our streets,” said Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones in a statement.
