MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WKEF)– Another Miami Valley City puts a stop to marijuana sales. Miamisburg city officials approved the ban at Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
A short, but productive city council meeting for the City of Miamisburg on Tuesday night, where they reviewed Ordinance No. 7155. Assistant City Manager Emily Christian broke down what this is all about.
“Ordinance 7155 will prohibit adult use cannabis operators within the city as well as update our current medical marijuana operator chapter 874 of the codified ordinances to include a ban of both types of operators,” said Christian.
The state of Ohio has a law, which allows cities to restrict cannabis and according to a recent study done by the Mortiz College of Law at the Ohio State University, as of May 2025, 133 Ohio cities and townships have passed moratoriums banning adult-use cannabis businesses, but this could be changing in the future.
“The state of Ohio has a pending litigation including the budget bill for the state that has a potential to impact the city’s and other city’s ability to regulate and restrict adult use cannabis operators as well,” said Christian.
The City of Miamisburg does have a moratorium set to expire September 5th, but they wanted to act now rather than waiting closer to the date.
However, state law still allows those over 21 years old to grow marijuana in their homes with a limit of 12 plants per home.
