TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A Toledo Police officer accused of buying marijuana while on the job took a plea deal on Tuesday.
Jeremy Berndt was originally scheduled to go to trial on June 3, but he took a plea deal and entered an Alford plea to attempted dereliction of duty, a third-degree misdemeanor. He could face up to 60 days in jail. The 13 Action News I-TEAM first reported this story back in January.
Prosecutors said Berndt was caught on video buying pot from Maximum Performance Cycles on Laskey Road on Dec. 3, 2024. The affidavit says officer Berndt was wearing his police issued uniform and firearm and arrived and left in his marked Toledo Police vehicle. The report says Maximum Performance Cycle is not a state licensed marijuana dispensary.
A Toledo Police spokesperson said Berndt is currently off the TPD payroll by “self removal.” An internal affairs investigation is still ongoing.
His sentencing is scheduled for June 25.
