WANSHIP, Utah (KUTV) — A man and woman from New Jersey were arrested after they were allegedly found transporting more than 100 pounds of marijuana through Utah, authorities said.
A Utah Highway Patrol trooper stopped a transit van for speeding on I-80 near milepost 156 in Wanship.
The trooper approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, 40-year-old Martin Davis Little, and the passenger, 28-year-old Shadaya Yvonne Weaver. Upon approaching the vehicle, the trooper noted a strong smell of marijuana.
Both Little and Weaver handed over New Jersey driver’s licenses. The trooper ordered Little to exit the vehicle, confronted him about the odor, and asked if he had a medical marijuana card. Little said no — as did Weaver when asked.
Little admitted that he and Weaver were transporting a package but said the shipper told them it contained hemp.
The trooper conducted a search of the van and located “cardboard boxes containing marijuana plant material and pre-rolled marijuana cigarettes.” The total weight of marijuana was more than 100 pounds, according to arrest documents.
Little was booked into the Summit County Jail on possession with intent to distribute, marijuana possession of more than 100 pounds, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance, and speeding. Weaver was booked on the same charges, excluding speeding.
