ST. LOUIS — If you’re wondering if you can transport marijuana while traveling through St. Louis’ Lambert International Airport, the answer is no, especially if there’s more than 40 pounds of the stuff in your checked luggage.
That’s what one 31-year-old woman learned on Tuesday, according to a statement from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
St. Louis Customs agents got word from their counterparts in Newark that the woman, an American citizen, was a subject of interest, the statement said.
“The U.S. citizen was departing St. Louis to head to Frankfurt, Germany,” the statement said. “Before her luggage was loaded on the aircraft, CBP officers inspected her two suitcases and found 38 bundles of marijuana with a total weight of 43-and-a-half pounds.”
The woman and the marijuana found in her bags were turned over to St. Louis Airport Police, the CBP statement said.
LaFonda D. Sutton-Burke, Director of Field Operations at the Chicago Field Office, commended the effort to stop the marijuana from leaving the country.
“I commend the CBP officers in Newark and at Lambert for enforcing U.S. federal law, which prohibits the illegal distribution of marijuana,” Sutton-Burke said.
