CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Five Chicago elementary students were taken to the hospital after reportedly taking edibles at school.

The students at George Leland Elementary School in the Austin neighborhood rushed to hospitals after Chicago Fire Department officials say the students took marijuana edibles.

Leland Principal Alesia Franklin-Allen told parents in a letter that the individuals received medical attention “out of an abundance of caution” and that she’s working with Chicago Public Schools to handle the incident.

She added that school administrators have contacted the Chicago Public Schools Office of Safety and Security and the parents of the students have been notified of the incident.

All five students were under the age of 15 and were in good condition.
