JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Could marijuana have less potential for abuse that other drugs?
The U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) recommended that cannabis be reclassified as a Schedule 3 drug.
Studies have shown its medicinal value is less dangerous, which would remove it from its current position as a Schedule 1 drug.
John Walker, with Roots Remedy, said rescheduling would help dispensaries in Mississippi.
“When we remove 280E taxation, it’ll allow dispensary owners to make a little bit more money and therefore not be as tight and therefore be able to actually lower our prices instead of just, you know, the traditional right now is 100% markup or 50% gross margin,” he said.
As a Schedule 1 drug, marijuana is classified with other drugs, including heroin, LSD and ecstasy.
