England and Man City footballer Lauren Hemp often discusses how she uses LEGO to relax off the field but now her collection is taking over her home.

The 23-year-old footballer has close ties to the LEGO Group, having been part of the company’s ‘Unstoppable FC’ initiative and spoken often before about how she uses building LEGO sets to relax when not playing football. During the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2023, Hemp was also faced with the issue of having to get her built LEGO sets back to England, after building 10298 Vespa 125, 75255 Yoda, and 21332 The Globe while away.

Now, speaking to The Telegraph, Hemp is still going strong with building LEGO as a hobby.

“Something that helps me have confidence and be relaxed on the pitch is that work-life balance,” she said. “Life away from the pitch is really good for me and when life outside of football is going well, it helps reflect on the pitch.

“I quite like doing [LEGO] to relax the mind. I recently made a little model, a mini rollerskate (31148 Retro Roller Skate), which was quite cool.”

However, despite 31148 Retro Roller Skate being a relatively small set, any long-time LEGO collector will know that they quickly take up a lot of space – an issue that Hemp is now discovering.

“I’ve actually recently been building Ikea flatpack things to put them all on shelves, because at the moment they’re just hoarding my house!” she said.

I write about all the very best fandoms – and that means LEGO, of course. Spending so much time looking at and talking about LEGO sets is dangerous for my bank balance, but the LEGO shelves are thriving. You win some, you lose some.
