Bellefontaine City Council members are set to take up the issue of the sale of marijuana within the city limits.
Council was addressed during a regular meeting Tuesday, April 24, about the question of whether or not to permit a marijuana dispensary in Bellefontaine. Brian Wingfield spoke to council and asked permission for a cannabis shop to be permitted in the city.
Wingfield has existing business interests in the city and told council that host municipalities could receive up to 3.5% of the revenue generated from adult-use marijuana now that recreational use is legal in the state of Ohio.
The issue was directed to council’s rules committee, which is expected to meet with Wingfield in the days ahead and report back to council during the next regular meeting, set for 7:30 p.m. May 7.
