SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio)Marijuana delivery and an expanded list of edibles will soon be available in New Jersey.

New Jersey Cannabis Regulatory Commission officials have greenlit a plan to expand the edibles product category. Right now, customers can only buy gummies or lozenges, but in the coming months, THC-infused baked goods and beverages will become available.

“It will have relatively plain packaging that’s not attractive to children,” said CRC executive director Jeff Brown. He believes these will likely be very popular options.

“You do see edible products taking over a greater market share as the markets mature, and this is happening across the country,” said Brown. “It’ll help convert consumers who might be purchasing from illegal or informal means.”

Applications will be accepted starting Sept. 27 for three new license classes: wholesale, distribution and retail delivery.

“Age will have to be verified, so delivery services will have to have protocols in place to make sure that they’re checking ID,” explained Brown.

He says social equity applicants will be prioritized for the first few months as they look to get more diversely-owned businesses included. There’s a pre-application webinar on Thursday, Sept. 14 for those interested in learning more.
