‘Dabs’ or ‘dabbing’ is the name used for concentrated butane hash oil.

It is a new method of ingesting cannabis that involves inhaling concentrated tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main active chemical in cannabis.

Beginning on April 15, Revenue officers seized €282,000 worth of illegal substances.

Whilst examining parcels at a premises in Dublin they used risk profiling to uncover 9.2kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of over €184,000.

They then came across the 360 grams of butane honey oil with an estimated value of €7,200.

The next seizure was a variety of other drugs estimated to be worth over €7,300, comprising of 3.3g of cannabis resin, 176.1g of cannabis edibles, 22.8g of cannabis oil, 28g of methamphetamine, 2.4g of magic mushrooms, 175g reefers, 30 synthetic cannabinoid tablets, and 589 benzodiazepine, Diazepam, Zopiclone and Zolpidem tablets.

The substances were discovered in parcels originating from the USA, Canada, the UK, Thailand and India and were intended for various addresses nationwide.

Designer goods with an estimated value of €37,000, were also seized due to infringements of Intellectual Property Rights.

These comprised of Rolex and Breitling watches, a Louis Vuitton handbag, two Moncler t-shirts, 25 Nike items, 19 Adidas items, four Ralph Lauren items, one pair of UGG shoes and a pair of Golden Goose shoes.

On Sunday, detector dog Toby working alongside gardaí helped seize over 46,200 cigarettes along with over 10 kgs of tobacco in North County Dublin.

The illicit cigarettes and tobacco, including brands such as ‘Marlboro’, ‘Mayfair’, ‘Marine’, ‘Blue River’ and ‘Excellence’, have an estimated value of over €47,200, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €36,900.

Investigations into all of these finds is continuing.

These seizures are “part of Revenue’s operations targeting smuggling and shadow economy activity.”

A Revenue spokesperson said: “If businesses, or members of the public, have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact us in confidence on 1800 295 295.”
